Chapter 2: 2

Example from the Bible
Noah and the Ark of Rescue

(Genesis 6-9)

The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and he said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me.” But before the Lord allowed the great fountains of the deep to burst forth and the flood rains to descend on the ground, He arranged the means of escape for Noah. He said to him, “Make yourself an ark". (Gen 6: 14)  Then the LORD said to Noah, “Come into the ark, you and all your household.” (Gen 7: 1)

Here we see that God did not prevent the rain and flood from the land, but he arranged an Ark of Salvation for Noah and his house. Instead of the rain and the floods falling on Noah, it fell on the Ark, and Noah and his family were rescued from the danger of judgment.  When the pigeon was sent out from the ship, it returned bearing an olive leaf in her beak, announcing the end of wrath and the beginning of peace.

Dear reader, Divine Wrath is coming, with no escape.  We see the beginnings of anger in the clouds around us now. But thanks to the Lord from all of our hearts, because Christ is the Ark of Rescue, and through His work on the Cross He bore all of our judgment. He has also promised to save us from the wrath to come.

This is good news for all who have found shelter in Christ's sacrifice and each person who comes to Him now will find protection in Him.

When the waters and floods of wrath had crossed over the Ark of Escape in the days of Noah, the rainbow appeared in the sky, the blessed covenant between God and man. And God said, “I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. It shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud; and I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.” (Gen 9: 13-15)  This arc (a pavilion of light) in the sky assured Noah that there would never again be such a flood, nor judgment upon him now.

Likewise, the blood of Christ, the sign of the New Covenant, is declaring the passing over of the judgment and the salvation of our souls.

Note that Adam, in the previous chapter, suffers from fear for three reasons: Guilt before God, Rejection by God, and Waiting for the Punishment of God.  But the atonement of Christ conquers these three fears.

Therefore by the work of Christ,
We have justification and the forgiveness of God, “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.” (Ephesians 1: 7)
We are accepted by God, “He gave the right to become children of God.” (John 1: 12).
The judgment of God has passed, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”  (Hebrews 10: 17)

Do you want to enjoy this first peace, inside the Ark, away from the first danger:  the Rains of Judgment?

Come to Him now, and ask in faith for shelter in His person and work

He is the Ark of Salvation.

Practical Summary

• Know that the primary source of your fears is fear from God.  You cannot conquer this fear without having experienced the birth from God and becoming a child of God.  If you haven’t experienced this sonship yet, leave this book for a while, and lift up your heart to God, or bow down on your knees and beseech Him, saying, God, be merciful to me a sinner!’ (Luke 18:13)  Then you will enjoy His great salvation and His marvelous peace.

• Know that there is nothing that prevents you from enjoying God’s marvelous peace more than sin and falling.  Adam was deprived of peace when he sinned and fell.  Know that the only way for this peace to return to your heart is confession and repentance.  Because:  “He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy (Pro 28:13).  And, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (I John 1:9)

• Know that as a believer, you became a dear and precious child to the heart of your heavenly Father.  You are no longer a criminal, deserving punishment, but a son who enjoys favor and care.  Remind yourself every day that you are God’s child.  And experience each day that you are precious to His heart. “Since you were precious in My sight, You have been honored, And I have loved you.” (Is 43:4)

• Know that it is your right to conquer the fear of death. For this reason Jesus died for you, “Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” ( Heb 2:14, 15)

• Know that the work of the cross is the secret of your peace, not only concerning sin and judgment, but in all the circumstance of your life.  So when you are afraid of anything, shout out, saying, God, “who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all

Remind yourself every day, that you are a child of God, and experience each day that you are dear to His heart.
