Chapter 2: 7
Fears and their Treatment (1)

God did not abandon Abraham because of his weakness and mistakes. He had compassion on him and on his wife Sarah and extended His hand to rescue them.  For He loved them.  Certainly, before God approached Abraham to help and treat his fears and repair all the resulting damage, Abraham humbled himself before the Lord and admitted his mistake and repented and surely he prayed, pleading with to God to save him from Pharaoh and return Sarah to him one more time. The real path for healing is to be humble before God

This is what God has declared, saying:  "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”  ( 2 chronicles 7:14)

When we lose heart and sin, God does not look at us as criminals who deserve punishment, but as sick people who need treatment.

While God was treating Abraham, He did to him and for him three glorious things.  And the same three things God does to us when we humble ourselves before Him.

God strikes Pharaoh

I imagine Abraham in these hard, dark nights, weeping much and crying out, “Where are you Sarah? How are you doing?” And certainly he was praying and crying out “Who will rescue her? Who will save her from the hand of Pharaoh?” He might not have slept the whole night, thinking how to deal with Pharaoh.

Maybe he used to go at night to Pharaoh’s palace and walk around it weeping and pleading to see Sarah, to hear her or to know of her conditions. But when he looks up to the high walls and sees the protected strong gates, he becomes full of desperation, failure and frustration and asks himself how he could defeat Pharaoh and save Sarah from his hands. But the Almighty God of Abraham did it, inflicting serious diseases on Pharaoh and his household. God is able to do what we can't.

"O Abraham, If your problem is greater than you can bear, remember it’s not bigger than your God.”  Abraham did not see God striking Pharaoh and without the Divine revelation, he would have never known and neither would we.

Dear reader: that’s what God does for you from behind the scenes. You might not observe what God does for you, but you will definitely see His salvation:  “A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.” (psalm 91:7, 8)

We always know how to get ourselves into problems but we don’t know how to get out of it. God alone can strike the strong and deliver us from his hand.

Egypt, in the Bible, represents the world and Pharaoh is referred to as the prince of this world. Jesus Christ Himself who, on the cross, has beaten the prince of the world with many strikes.  “And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” (Colossians 2:15) The LORD inflicted serious diseases on Pharaoh and his household.

Trust that the Lord works for your good even if you don’t see it, He defends you before your boss, your chief, or whoever oppresses you. God did not allow King Xerxes to sleep, just to save Mordecai from the gallows that Haman had prepared for him.

Also, when Jacob was in great fear from Laban who was chasing him and was afraid that Esau who come and attack him, with his wives and children, yet when Laban arrived, he said to Jacob:  “I have the power to harm you; but last night, the God of your father said to me, 'Be careful not to say anything to Jacob, either good or bad.” Jacob did not know that God has talked to Laban at night and warned him not to pick a quarrel with him.

Therefore, dear reader, eternity alone will reveal to you what the Lord has done for you from behind the scenes. Trust that He is for you.   “If God is for us, who can be against us?”

Rejoice dear believer, because of the cross, Satan is a beaten and defeated enemy.  He has no power or authority over you. He was defeated by the Cross. The Almighty has come, who defeated the strong one and tied him up and carried off his possessions.

Rejoice because Jesus has overcome the world and the prince of this world.  For you.   So that he cannot cause you any harm.   Jesus says: “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)

If the world and its prince has taken anything from you or robbed you, he may take away your joy and peace or your strength and fellowship with God. Or he may even take your children, wife or husband… Just come to the Lord who has defeated Satan on the cross and has overcome the world. Since you cannot stand against Pharaoh, don’t go to him to fight him, but Go to the Lord who on the cross, has overcome the world and He will grant you His victory.
