                                                      Chapter 3:5

Frustration and its reasons (1)

What were the reasons for Sarah’s frustration that made her take a wrong decision to convince her husband Abraham to marry Hagar?

Through our observation of Sarah’s life, we can notice many reasons that caused her frustration which also, could be applied on us.

First: Stress for need: Sarah, like every woman has a motherhood desire. She is also in need of a child to satisfying her passion and to delight her life. Sarah was about 75 years old when she offered Hagar to her Husband to marry, while Abraham had about 85 years of age, and they were childless.

Besides, Sarah was looking badly for a son to inherit all the richness of Abraham. She and her husband were certain that without that, the heir for all the properties and possessions granted by God will be Eliezer of Damascus, the high servant of his household. Abraham said to God: “"O Sovereign LORD, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?"  And Abram said, "You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir."(Genesis: 15:3, 4)

Often, we are stressed for a need and when it is not obtained or when God is patient to give, we feel frustrated.

Dear reader, do not allow the pressure or the stress for need, leads you to frustration, for the Lord will cover it  in his own way and time, just wait for Him and be patient.

God is not committed to realize our personal dreams but he is committed to realize his plan and his will in our life. The Lord does not fulfill our dreams but He fulfils our needs. We might think that He is patient in executing his plan in our lives, but He is committed to His dates as he promises us saying: "He has made everything beautiful in its time”( Ecclesiastes 3:11)

Second: Success of others: Sarah was seeing that God is giving offspring to all. He gave the righteous and the wicked, believers and sinners, but he did not give her so far. At that time and in all of the Old Testament, offspring was taken as blessing from God while sterility was a sign of absence of blessings. In the Old Testament, God’s blessings were materialistic unlike the spiritual blessings we are enjoying in the New Covenant.

The barren woman was shameful and disgraceful and was a sign of God’s anger. This feeling came to Sarah who said:” The LORD has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my maidservant; perhaps I can build a family through her."(Genesis 16:2)

Sarah’s frustration went worse when she saw that God has given Lot and his wife offspring despite their low spiritual morals and their attachment to the world, whereas He did not give it to her husband who had a deep fellowship with Him, Abraham was even named: God’s friend.

Sometimes, when you compare your life and your circumstances with those around you, and you see them more successful than you, you get disappointed and ask yourself: O God, you give this to the righteous and the wicked… why not to me??? The same happened to Asaph in Psalm 73 when he looked around him seeing the wicked better than him, he suffered from frustration and almost slipped into sin.

However dear reader, wait for God’s will into your life and do not watch   successful people around you and never envy those who make their way forward. The Lord has a great and special plan for your life, although it is different from one another, try not to compare yourself with others, just lift up your eyes to Him and wait for Him.

Success does not mean realizing the utmost richness, reputation or pleasure but it’s the fulfillment of the utmost of God’s plan and desire in your life.

Therefore, accept God’s will in your life and enjoy it and even be proud of it: "Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways,” (Psalm 37:7)
