Chapter 5: 4
The Negative effects of temptations (2)

What else did Lot lose?
Fourth: Principles and spiritual values
Lot lost his principles and values when he accepted to offer his two daughters to the men of Sodom to do evil to them. The  right and normal behavior is that the father cares for his daughters and protects them from every evil, but Lot has gave up the simplest principles and values when he came out to the people of Sodom saying: “I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as [is] good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.” (Genesis 19:7, 8)

Besides his concessions of principles and values for his daughters, Lot also agreed to be equal to the people of the world when he said to the people of Sodom:  “My brothers” Lot the righteous man became brother to the wicked people of Sodom. He therefore has lost the privilege of being separated from the world.

That exactly what happens when a believer starts conceding of his simplest principles; concessions will follow until he loses all of his morals and principles.

Dear reader, maintain your spiritual principles and never abandon them and beware of the little concessions, for the big losses start with small concessions  and the little foxes are those who spoil the vines.

When maintaining your spiritual principles, you may lose the admiration and respect of others but you will gain God’s satisfaction and His honor to your life. He promised to honor those who honor Him.

Fifth: Loss of the family
As a result of his moving to Sodom, Lot has lost all members of his family. He lost his wife on his way leaving Sodom, when she looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt as she still had her heart attached to Sodom.
He also lost his married daughters when he left them with his sons in law who refused to leave with him. Also he lost his two unmarried daughters as they committed adultery with him causing an impure reputation for him.

How huge Lot’s loss was, he had moved to Sodom for the sake of his wife and daughters in order to insure them a better future and a higher living standard, but unfortunately he lost them because of the temptations of life.

That’s what happens to some people who immigrate for their families and work hard to provide them a better life but they lose them as the world takes them away.

May the Lord protect us from such huge loss, and protect our wives and children keeping them away from the wickedness of this world. May all of them win the eternal life thus we enjoy this blessed saying: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” (Acts 16:31)

Dear reader, pray daily for your family and your children asking for God’s protection from the influence and temptations of this world. Take the responsibility in this matter and do not be lenient in it. Then you will be able to cheer with Joshua saying: “But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
