Chapter 5: 9
Temptations and their treatment (2)

Second: God liberated Lot from captivity
“Now when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his three hundred and eighteen trained servants who were born in his own house, and went in pursuit as far as Dan. 15 He divided his forces against them by night, and he and his servants attacked them and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus. 16 So he brought back all the goods, and also brought back his brother Lot and his goods, as well as the women and the people” (Genesis 14:14-16)

God did not leave Lot in captivity but He used Abraham to deliver Lot and his family from captivity. That shows how magnificent Abraham’s faith in God was; he did not rejoice at Lot’s troubles, saying that Lot has harvested what his hands had planted, but he kept calling him “My brother”. He fought for him with a few number of men and he could have lost everything in order to liberate Lot from captivity.

That’s how God deals with us when we are fooled by the world’s attractions and fall in them and reap their consequences, He deals with us based on His rich grace to place us out of the trouble.

Therefore, dear reader, If you are in a similar situation like Lot and are suffering from difficult conditions resulting of your mingling with the world, trust that the Lord will not abandon you. Lift up your heart to Him repenting for what you did, asking Him aid and deliverance and He will surely accept your repentance and get you out of captivity.

May God let us look around and have pity for the believers captivated in the world and may He help us not to judge but pray and assist other to be liberated from the world’s subjection and have spiritual victory.

God has rescued Lot through Abraham. And it was expected that after facing death and after the scandal and shame Lot passed through, that he stays and lives with his uncle in Hebron and live the fellowship with God for the rest of his life. Unfortunately he went back to Sodom and was mingled with the world more than before; he has chosen his sons in law from the Sodom and forgot what happened to him.

That exactly what sometimes happens to us; when God permits us to suffer due to illness or difficult situations in our work or family or due to any other reason, we cry out to Him and pledge before Him that if He lets us out of the difficulties, we will live faithfully for Him and will consecrate to Him the rest of our life. But when God answers, we forget all about it and return to where we were before.

Therefore dear reader, when God delivers you from your difficulty, do not forget what you have learned through and from this trouble and do not repeat your mistakes but stick to Him and to the believers and reject the world’s temptations that have put you in such trouble.
